A client calls.
Now what?

Bep simulates realistic legal conversations, from client intakes to breaking bad news. So law students, junior associates, junior lawyers and anyone who wants to sharpen their professional conversation skills can practise until it becomes second nature.

How it works

You learn conversation skills by doing, not by reading. Bep is built on proven teaching principles: a safe place to practise, immediate, rich and contextual feedback, and repetition until it sticks.

1. Choose your challenge

Pick a scenario from the library or let Bep create one that fits your learning goals. Intake, bad-news conversation, negotiation: every scenario is built around the pitfalls you meet in practice.

2. Have the conversation

Call or chat with an AI client who responds like a real person, with emotion, resistance and unpredictability. No script, no pause button. You learn to handle pressure at the moment it matters.

3. Understand what worked

Straight afterwards, your AI coach tells you what went well, what could be sharper and how to approach it next time. Not a grade, but concrete pointers you can put to use right away.

Or build your own training

Lecturers, trainers and employers use AI to create their own scenarios in minutes and share them through a training page, fully tailored to their own learning goals and practice.

Why Bep exists

At university, law students learn to analyse legislation, draft contracts and solve legal puzzles. But the first phone call with a client gets little attention.

Lucas Lieverse, a lecturer at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences with a PhD in conflict resolution in legal practice, saw it every day: talented students freezing during a simple phone call. Not because they couldn't do it, but because they hadn't done it often enough.

Maurits Fornier, founder of the legal tech studio Patroon, builds technology for the legal sector.

Together they saw the opportunity: proven teaching methods, safe practice, immediate feedback.

That is why we are building Bep.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you want to know about Bep.

What exactly is Bep?

Bep is an AI conversation trainer for law students and legal professionals. You practise realistic conversations (client intakes, advice conversations, bad-news conversations) with an AI actor who responds like a real client. After every conversation, an AI coach gives you targeted feedback on both the legal substance and your communication skills.

Who is Bep for?

We built Bep for law students, legal trainees, junior associates and anyone who wants to practise professional conversation skills. Lecturers and trainers can also build their own scenarios and assign them to their students or staff.

Can I practise in English?

Yes. The English version of Bep is aimed at students of EU law and at lawyers at Dutch firms who advise international clients. The conversations take place in English, while the cases are grounded in Dutch and EU law.

How realistic are the conversations?

Our AI actors respond in a lifelike way. They are built on detailed scenarios with emotional guidelines, character backgrounds and legal context. They respond to your tone, ask questions back and can even end the conversation if emotions run too high, just like in real life.

Can I call Bep, or only chat?

Both. You can choose between a text chat (similar to WhatsApp) or a real-time voice conversation through your microphone. By default, the voice option uses Google's Gemini Live for natural, immediate conversation. Organisations can also choose OpenAI's GPT-Live.

How does the feedback work?

After every conversation, a purpose-built AI coach analyses the transcript on two axes: legal substance (is the information correct, complete and clear?) and conversation skills (communication, attitude, empathy, structure). You get concrete observations and points for improvement.

Can I create my own scenarios?

Yes. Lecturers and trainers can create their own scenarios with our Scenario Builder, so students and course participants learn exactly what you want them to learn. You describe a situation and learning goals, and the AI generates a complete scenario including a client profile, emotional guidelines and feedback criteria. You can of course adjust everything by hand so the AI actor responds exactly the way you want.

Is my data safe?

Scenarios are stored in a secure Firebase environment (servers in the Netherlands) with role-based access control. We do not store sessions (transcripts and feedback). If you do not download the transcript and feedback, they are gone. The real-time communication is, however, processed on the AI provider's servers (Google, or OpenAI if your organisation has switched on that voice option), and that provider decides where the processing takes place.

What does Bep cost?

We offer licences for educational institutions, law firms and individual users. Want to know what Bep would cost for your group? Plan a pilot below, with no obligation, and we will talk through the options.
